As a voluntary organisation we are always looking for supportive and committed people who are able to offer their time and skills to the work of the Centre. Volunteers can become involved with direct work with survivors of abuse, running the telephone helpline and face to face counselling. Alternatively, dependant on the skills and experience you bring, it may include involvement in the running of the centre in an administrative or management committee capacity.
Anyone who would like to work on the helpline, offer support sessions and/or counselling to survivors is required to complete our internal training programme, which runs once enough interest has been expressed from applicants.
The training course is unique to the Kirklees Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre; it is free and we pay childcare and travel costs for all our volunteers. The focus of the course is very focused on counselling skills in relation to working with survivors of sexual/domestic abuse.
